Here’s one of my latest watercolor quote paintings! I would have liked to take more progress photos, but it was one of those days where I just got sucked into the zone of painting and creating — isn’t that just the best?!
I started on 11×15″ watercolor paper, and experimented with some brand new Ken Oliver ColorBurst watercolor powders — These are simply amazing, and SO much fun to work with! I’ll create some videos of the process with these watercolor powders. I’m obsessed with these, the pigments are so rich, and you can get some really beautiful effects working with these powders as opposed to traditional watercolor.
While letting it dry, I accidentally sprayed some water droplets on the painting, which turn out to be a gorgeous effect! So I went with it. I wasn’t sure where this was going, but knew this would make a nice background for something…
I was listening to this song by Saint Motel — I saw them perform in October 2017 at the Adobe Max conference in Vegas — they are so fun! And I thought, this would make a perfect quote painting.
I used a fine brush for the lettering with Dr. PH Martin’s Bleedproof White — this stuff is SO great to letter with, much smoother and richer than any other white paints I’ve tried. Perfect for going over dark backgrounds or dark paper.
I put down some washi tape for guidelines and sketched lightly with a pencil, then finished up with the Bleedproof White ink. I love how it turned out!
